Program Description

Event Details

One of the most dangerous, injurious and HIGHLY preventable experiences seniors can face is falling.  Unfortunately, for most seniors the first time they learn about the catastrophic potential resulting from even a small fall is after they fall. Of all the possible challenges that the elderly encounter, falling is a very dynamic and painful prelude to the possibilities of extreme challenges and limitations and loss of independence.

The VAST majority of falls are preventable through education, pre-planning, the use of walking aids, and basic "common sense."  The most common place falls occur is in the home, accounting for 60% of all falls. There is very little you can do to control the environment; however, you can have 100% control over your home and can design measures to ensure your safety to the highest degree possible.

The purpose of this presentation is to educate through experience and research the myriad of measures to ensure your personal safety. After a bad fall, the results may be beyond medical intervention. INTERVENE BEFORE!

Robert Blaufarb, is the author of "My Bronx, My Oz" and a firefighter for the Town of Mamaroneck.
