FamilySearch is a free genealogy website with billions of records. There are two versions, one for home use and one available only in Affiliate libraries, such as the Larchmont Public Library (LPL.) The Affiliate Library version of FamilySearch gives access to some material not available on the home edition. The LPL also provides users with access to the Library edition of Ancestry. Both FamilySearch and Ancestry are available for free on LPL computers. Today’s program will look at the development of FamilySearch and compare the versions of it available for home use and at Affiliate libraries. It will also compare the features of Ancestry and FamilySearch. Registrants should bring specific questions they want to explore. After the program, participants can use LPL computers for their own research.
Alan Steinfeld has been exploring his family history for over 45 years. He has taught genealogy to students of all ages and helped dozens of people develop their own family trees. Before his retirement, Dr. Steinfeld was a Professor of Radiation Oncology at New York University. He lives with his wife, Rena, in Scarsdale, NY.
