Program Description

Event Details

Over the course of this workshop, students will be challenged to think about composition, color, value, and the often unpredictable nature of watercolor.  With visual demonstrations at every stage and one-on-one guidance from the instructor, students will learn to lightly sketch a still-life from observation, and methodically build up layers of color and value. We will talk about different watercolor techniques, how to preserve our lightest values and work additively, and how to create unique textures using sea salt and isopropyl alcohol. All materials will be provided, and all skill levels are welcome!

Juliette Vaissière is a French-American artist and educator. She holds an MFA in Painting from the New York Academy of Art, and a BFA from the University of North Texas. Recently, she co-curated an exhibition for the Manhasset Public Library, and was awarded a summer residency in the Hudson Valley where she will spend a week painting and drawing plein-air landscapes.  She is inspired by historical Europe, modern social tropes, and the magic of fairytales. Her work is included in private collections across the United States and Europe, and she maintains an active studio practice in New Rochelle, NY.
