Event Details
"A symphony must be like an entire world — it should contain everything," said Mahler to Sibelius, revealing his all-encompassing approach to composition. Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 develops on this idea, challenging classical conventions with expanded instrumentation, including an organ and offstage brass and percussion ensemble. A turbulent musical journey awaits: the funereal first movement flows into a folk-inspired Andante, a striking Scherzo, a meditative Wunderhorn song ("Urlicht") for alto voice, and a dramatic and lengthy finale. The extraordinary Marin Alsop leads the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Polish National Youth Choir — joined by soprano Janai Brugger and mezzo-soprano Gerhild Romberger — in a magnificent rendition of the "Resurrection" Symphony, bringing new life into a composition founded on the beauty of redemption and renewal.
