Program Description

Event Details

This monthly workshop begins with a brief general check in regarding the specific needs of the participants, what is challenging for them when doing other exercise or getting around in life. The body of the class is an hour long spine focused gentle class including movements for the head, neck, ribcage and rib-spine, and the 3 curves of the lower back. Goals may include increasing and balancing mobility, stability, strength and coordination, moving while feeling more comfortable in the body. If they’d like attendees may stay for the remaining half hour, focusing on more specific body/mind concerns that may be shared in the group, perhaps including addressing challenges in other joints (jaw, shoulders, hips, knees, etc.) or organs, sensing the “wholeness” of the universe of being. This class may take place primarily seated in chairs and standing with or without the support of the chair, but could include a mat section (lying down, kneeling, etc.) depending on the mobility of the participants.

(A general clearance from a doctor to exercise gently is a good pre-requisite for this workshop.)

Susan J Wright is a highly experienced yoga teacher and internationally certified yoga therapist. Her background also includes being a licensed massage therapist and clinical social worker, and she is the author of the book, The Chakras in Shamanic Practice, published by Inner Traditions.
