Event Details

Before Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner created abstract art, they drew from observation.  Joyce Raimondo, Education Coordinator, presents early drawings by Pollock and Krasner, followed by hands-on activities designed to improve skills of observation and show a range of drawing techniques. Artists of all levels welcomed.  The library will not provide any supplies. You only need to sign up once and you will get the Zoom link the evening before for each session.

 

Monday, November 7th 2 pm: Anyone Can Draw! –Have you ever said, “I can’t draw a straight line?” For anyone who enjoys drawing, this workshop will show you simple techniques to improve your observational drawing skills. In this relaxed session, we will learn contour drawing skills guaranteed to improve your drawing in one hour! Supplies; mirror, three sheets of paper, pencil, sharpener, eraser.

 

Monday, November 14th at 2 pm: What’s My Line! Pencil Drawing – Following a presentation of Pollock’s early graphite drawings, we will explore basics of observational drawing and modeling with pencil. From cross hatching, blending, and highlighting, this workshop will teach you creative ways that you can use pencil to create light and  shade. Supplies; several sheets of paper, pencil, sharpener, eraser.

 

Monday, November 21st at 2 pm: Who Am I? Self-Portraits – How do artists Pollock, Krasner, Picasso, Miro and others express their inner life in self-portraits? Following a presentation and tour of  the Pollock-Krasner barn studio, participants will create expressive self-portraits working alongside Joyce Raimondo live on Zoom. Have drawing supplies on hand.
