The Indigo Girl by Natasha Boyd (Wednesday, May 24th 10 am)

This historical novel, set in the 1700s, has 16 year old Eliza left in charge of her father’s three plantations. Realizing indigo plants would be profitable, she brings them to South Carolina despite everyone doubting her efforts. She persists and is credited with creating the indigo industry in South Carolina.

The Henna Artist  by Alka Joshi (Wednesday, June 14th 10 am)

Escaping from an abusive marriage, 17 year old Lakshimi makes her way alone to the city of Jaipur. She struggles to realize her dreams in a society not designed for independent women or freedom of choice. Still she perseveres, applying her talents and lifting up those that surround her as she does.
